Fly Fishing Film Tour Tonight in Cleveland

Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend a day on the water with the gang from the Fly Fishing Film Tour. We all had a blast and swung up a few fish during the day!!! Thad, Marc, Jay, Dan, and Brett is was great fishing with all of you... Tonight is the big night for fly fishing fanatics in Cleveland and the surrounding Lake Erie Region. The Tour stops in Cleveland and hits the big screen! Doors open at 6:30pm, we hope you come out and support such a great fly fishing venue..

Cedar Lee Theatre
2163 Lee Rd
Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118

Tickets are $15.00 at the door!
Raffles and Steelhead Guided trips will be given away Tonight!

Jay strikes a pose on an Ohio Tributary... You have got to see the gang in
the Latest Metal Head BC Steelhead Video tonight on the big screen!

Marc and Dan Sharing a laugh, of course at my expense after a great day on the water!

As for our tributaries the PA streams are fishing, but fish are far and few in between. Alot of hiking and switching fly patterns is a must to stay on top of fish. The larger Ohio Tributaries such as the Grand River and the Chagrin River are coming down, with the smaller Ohio tributaries fishing as of yesterday. Once again the fish are scattered nicely and locating fish is key to a successful outing. Here are just a few of the recent pics for now... We will have more later when possible.

Hot flies were Senyo's Ice man Minnows, Robinson's Chicken Littles, Chartreuse and hot pink eggs, McCrae Sculpins, White zonkers and buggers, and small attractor steelhead nymphs.

Fresh fish!!! Finally...

We'll have more for you soon....

Spring....Where Did You Go?

Yesterday was anything but typical. We spent the evening before praying that the rain would turn to snow, but be careful what you ask for....you just might get it. The snow wasn't anything big, it was what the temperatures did that affected things.

We had spent the day before on large numbers of fish, and when the streams elevated a bit and the temperatures dropped, fish went on the move big time!!!

Yesterday we spent the day chasing fish which was a challenge at best for most everyone we spoke with. Fish were caught, but it wasn't what you would consider a banner day. Nevertheless, our clients were very hard workers and they did everything they could to get the job done!

Here are a few photos from the last couple days....

ALLAN WITH ANOTHER NICE SPRING HEN

Day two was the challenge day, but challenges are good for all of us, guides or not. We believe that a true day of fishing makes you a better fisherman. This was one of those days. You had to work for your fish! There weren't a lot of gimme's today....but our guys came through with fish. Here are a couple of snapshots....

With numerous guides on the water the last couple of days, we have been very busy and are staying that way. We are hoping to see more fish as the ice on the lake continues to thaw and get out of the way. We still have the peak of our season yet to come, so if you are looking for a first class fly fishing experience on Steelhead Alley, give us a shout.

Steelhead and Weather Forecasts

Well, it really just isn't a Steelhead season if you don't have uncertain weather and/or a weather man who doesn't get the forecast right. I mean really, it just isn't the same game without the uncertainty we get to deal with in the game of Steelhead!

Today, it was more of the same. The forecast was rain at 4 a.m. and continuing throughout the day. By 9 a.m., still no rain....had we dodged a bullet, or were the storms just running late? Well, I guess late was the true forecast and so by mid day the rains came. They weren't bad, but enough to make the day a damp one.

Nevertheless, we hung with the game and we had some awesome teammates with us to go along for the ride. Some were repeat clients in the groups while others had never fished on the fly before, let alone a Steelhead. Needless to say the day was full of fun, laughter, and of course, fish!

And wouldn't you all say that the first fly rod catch is worth a million dollars? Here is one such catch for Marty. This wasn't only his first fly rod catch, but his first Steelhead. By days end, he was cursing his buddy John because of all the money he knew he would spend acquiring Steelhead gear when he got home.

We had a great day with plenty of fish landed and we will have more of the photos from the day as they come in from our team of guides. Tomorrow we are out in force with a large number of clients, so don't hesitate to say hey if you see us on the water.

Today while we were out fishing clients, we were also field testing some new Orvis packs of varying shapes and sizes....it's always fun to be on the cutting edge of new design.

In closing, I wanted to remind everyone of the upcoming Fly Fishing Film Tour 2010 that is coming to Cleveland. We are sponsoring this event and would love to see as many of you there as possible. Space is limited and this event will sell out, so get your tickets soon by going to the FFFT website.

Soaked in Steel...Steelhead Alley River Report

What a great start to the week! Rain moved into the area Monday and the temperatures dropped into the high 30's. This is exactly what the rivers needed to keep good flow levels and water color, We are seeing a small trickle of fresher fish moving up stream which is also a plus. The crowds have been minimal at best and the majority of the fish we caught were winter hold overs or have been in the river a few weeks already.

More Rain and a mix of sleet and snow are in the forecast starting this Thursday with night time lows in the 20's and 30's. We have multiple guides out pretty much as usual from here on out, so we will keep the updates as current as possible. Right now the Ohio tributaries are on the high side with a few coming into fishable conditions quickly. The PA tributaries are fishing well with great color and flows. Having 7 guides PA Licensed really has paid off over the past two years! This enables us move around the weather and fish alot of very good water when ever possible with any size group.

Hot flies the past few days have been Robinson's Chicken Little's with chartreuse, orange, and pink egg heads. Senyo's Ice Man Minnows in grey/pearl, emerald shiner, and blue/pink. Sucker spawn and skein flies in white, peach, yellow, and pink. Caddis larvae in Chartreuse and dark olive. BH attractor nymphs in black, cream, and olive.

Here are a few pictures from the past few days on the alley. We will get a few more pics up as they all come in from the guys. We would like to thank everyone who has fished with us so far for a great start to the spring season. Hope you enjoy..

Until Next Time!

Sincerely,

Greg Senyo-SAO

Fun In The Sun...Steelhead Alley River Report

Today was another nice day on the Alley! The Guys fished a ton of water again today and put some mileage on the boots. Still not finding very many fresh fish in the rivers, but we are finding decent fish. Flies of choice today were various soft hackle caddis patterns, BOB's minnows, and small rubber legged stone flies.

Looks like we have a chance for rain starting this week, but they are calling for such small amounts that it should help the rivers not blow them out. We'll keep you in the loop! Here is a couple pictures from today and we will have more for you later.

Ohio Steelhead Sunrise!

Joe with a hard fought Ohio Steelhead.

Bart and Tony made a great father/son team and landed their fair share steelhead this afternoon.

Bart poses with a decent hen steelhead on his first outing for Ohio steel.

Have a great start to your week!

Steelhead Alley River Report

The weather has been beautiful this week! Lake Erie Tributaries are all at fishable flows with the exception of the Grand River (couple of days). The guys have covered alot of water so far with mixed results. Not alot of fresh fish around and the steelhead that are in the rivers are scattered nicely. Everyone has had a serious case of cabin fever and the streams currently have a ton of angler pressure. Good news is that at least a very small push of fresh fish are moving up river on a few of the area tribs.

Mike with his first fish of the day.

Brendan with his first steelhead on the fly.

Changing flies frequently has produced good results. Flies that have been productive for us so far are Chicken Littles, Ice Man Minnows, White/Pearl Buggers, Sucker Spawns in White, Yellow, Cream, and orange. Small stone fly nymphs and attractors such as wiggle stones, phyco princes, smurf stones, and pheasant tails are also good choices.

This buck took Pat's Chicken little streamer.

Senyo's Ice Man minnows have taken its fair share of fish as well.

Even a few Lake Erie bone fish.... LOL!

We are on the rivers daily from here on out, and will try to have reports up each evening if possible. If you need a river update or are interested in fishing with us please contact us via phone at 419-466-9382. I will check emails as frequent as possible. Have a great spring and hopefully we will see you along the river.

If you are interested in some of our featured fly patterns, the Orvis News recently ran articles on the Robinson's Chicken Little and Senyo's Ice Man Minnow tube flies. If you are into tying your own flies, all recipes and step by step instructions can be found at http://www.steelheadalleyflytying.blogspot.com/ for all patterns we currently use while guiding.

Until Next Time!

Free At Last!

Every tributary on the alley is blown and running hard. Its probably safe to say we will not see much ice the rest of the way, and we are free at last of winters grip on Lake Erie streams. Its obvious that the PA Tributaries will clear and become fish able first. There is still a decent amount of snow around the PA streams as well so this will sustain flows a tad longer than usual. The Weather has been beautiful the past few days, and the guys have been scouting and fishing the Eastern Tributaries where ever open water was found. Some days were better than others but a few good fish were caught on our outings. As soon as the flows are back down to fish able levels we will be on the streams daily...

Nice Buck From Elk Creek

Our Spring steelhead guide trip dates are filling fast! We would love to spend a day on the water with you. If you are interested in spending a day or two on the Alley we can accommodate beginner to expert, family, or business groups. Special needs trips are available as well... Come out and enjoy our wonderful fishery! We can be reached at 419-466-9382 or gregsenyo@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

Until next time! Have a great spring!
