The Fishing has been good on Steelhead Alley!

Well the fishing has been very good, but we could use a serious dose of precipitation. Swinging woolly bugger’s, sculpins, and streamers has been hot for drop backs and surf casting around the mouths of the tribs has also been a blast, the water temps are cooler in the lake and loaded with fish both fresh and drop backs. There are schools of Emerald Shiners every where making streamer fishing a blast!!!

We had a great time tying and casting during Orvis days at Chagrin River Outfitters, and I will be in Dayton and Cincinnati next week giving fly tying demonstrations and seminars For Orvis and local fly fishing clubs. We still have Trip days available to fly fish for small mouth bass, large mouth bass, pan fish, white Bass, and Carp this summer on Ohio rivers and a few private lakes and ponds. Our Brook Trout retreat again this year is nearly full and our Second cabin on the Tionesta Creek being constructed and will be completed and ready by this fall. fly fishing for spring trout fishing and summer small mouth from this cabin is spectacular.
Our guides are still on the river targeting what is left of the spring steelhead run and scouting out all the small mouth water as well , and look for their reports shortly. Stay tuned for a great summer of fly fishing adventures and destination trips still yet to come.
Look for our Steelhead Alley Outfitter Guides and their photos, articles, and stories in several publications this summer from Fly fisherman Magazine, Ohio Country Anglin Magazine , Cleveland Plain Dealer, The Beacon, Orvis News, D'arcy Egan's Ohio outdoor adventures TV show, and a host of other wonderful local publications and broadcasts.

Well one season is passing and we are geared up and ready for our summer trips, Our new tube fly line will be posted and available in June for steelhead, salmon, trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and pan fish. As always feel free to call or contact us at any time. What an amazing week so far!!!!

Temps have been in the 70's and steelhead fishing in t-shirts, seems totally unfair. The great thing is we have been fishing in complete solitude for the past two weeks targeting drop backs in the lower rivers and stream mouths. The bad news is the water temps have reached around 56 degrees and we will be calling it a season really quick.
We found several great holding pools with temps in the low 50's with tons of fiery steelhead. Dead drifting size 14 pastel eggs, wiggle stones, and caddis were the ticket this week so far. Swinging and stripping streamers and Sculpin’s through the pools also yielded some exciting takes and acrobatic jumps.

We are already getting into a few Smallmouth Bass and it will only get better! If you are interested in Smallmouth on the fly, we have already begun taking bookings. I would like to thank John, Pat, Jay, Joel, Graham, Jeremy, John, and Joe for all their hard work this steelhead season, and for some amazing memories!

Patti, Bob, and Flick thanks for coming steelhead fishing, and for a great time on the river, and off. Herb thanks for all the great video footage and hard work on the water filming, and photographing on Monday, my entire staff appreciates every thing you have done!
Last but not least, a special thank you to D'arcy Egan of the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Joe Thomas of the Cleveland Browns, for an amazing experience, great fly fishing, and the fantastic top notch video production crew, I can't wait to see the show!!
Thank you for the opportunity and invitation. I will be at Chagrin River Outfitters this Saturday fly casting and tying during Orvis days!

This will be quite an event with a great staff there in Chagrin Falls! Hope to see you guys there!!!
Many more Steelhead guide trip pictures to come!!! To everyone who fished with our staff this year, it was truly amazing! 152 incredible days of fly fishing for Steelhead and Trout on Steelhead Alley with fantastic anglers from 30 different states! We will see you all again in the fall, so have a great Summer!!!!

We have just a few more steelhead trips to complete this week and we will switch to targeting Smallmouth bass, and a multitude of other warm water species on the fly this summer.
See you all on the river, and remember you can call us at any time, for absolutely anything in pursuit of fish on the fly!!! 419-466-9382
Thank you again and good fishing!!!!

Alaskan Experience With SAO

I have heard it being said, and at one time believed it myself! That the Great Lakes Regions of Canada and the U.S. offered salmon fishing that rivals that of Alaska, and even better it was half the cost for the same experience... After being in Alaska I quickly came to reality and understood that the people saying such a thing have either never been to Alaska or just need to have their head and eyes checked!

Each year we host several great groups of angler's from across the lower 48 to what has become one of the great fly fishing experiences of my life. I truly believe that it is a must experience to fish and share these waters along side the Grizzly Bear at least once in your life!!!

So if you are looking or wanting to head north and are interested in meeting angler's of all walks of life, looking for a festive good time, chowing down some great food, telling fish stories in good company, and long for catching fish on the fly...! Give us a shout we would love to have you as a part of our outing each year!

Mertensia Springs Trout and Wilderness Conservation Club

During the summer months we offer trips exclusively through the Mertensia Springs Trout & Conservation Club in Ludlow Falls, Ohio. The club offers 3 distinct fly fishing opportunities to its visitors.

My favorite is fly fishing in Ludlow Creek! This is awesome 3wt water that is stocked with both Rainbow and Brown trout, and is home to wild Small Mouth Bass and Rock Bass! This stream is a blast to wade and alot of fun to spend the day on.

The club also borders the Still Water River which has been rated one of Ohio's Top Small Mouth fisheries. Several water way lakes are also on the property offering superb Large Mouth Bass, Crappie, and carp on the fly.

The club house at Mertensia Springs.
