Ohio Fishing License
PA Fishing License - You will need the Lake Erie/Trout Combo Stamp.
Clothing is the next item to be considered! Please layer and be prepared for colder temps and sudden precipitation. If not applicable on the day(s) you are with us, they can always be removed. Polarized Sun Glasses are also a must, and will dramatically increase your ability to read the water in our rivers. You should pack in or wear the following items.
1. Rain/Wading Jacket
2. Fleece wading pants and/or coat
3. Warm Hat and Gloves
4. Polarized Sun Glasses
We like to see our clients in Chest High Breathable Waders if at all possible. Most of our trip are walk & wade making breathable waders the comfortable option as the added bulk of neoprene can cause a blast furnace effect. Wading boots should have rubber lug soles with metal studs of some kind. This style boot makes hiking easier and also gives you solid footing on slippery shale and rock. We discourage the use of felt for multiple reasons.
As for equipment, we supply you with everything you need to be successful! All Rods, Reels, Leader, Tippet, and Custom Flies are included in your trip price. Some anglers who have fished with us prefer to use there own equipment and this is permitted. I feel that if you are taking advantage of this trip to learn and be able to pursue fish on your own, using and rigging your equipment properly is a major step in being successful. Either way the choice is strictly up to you...
Here is a basic list of gear and flies that are the norm while fishing on Steelhead Alley:
Rods:
Single hand 6wt-7wt-8wt are best suited in 9ft to 10ft in length
Switch Rods 6wt-7wt-8wt in 10.5ft to 11ft
Spey rod depends on what river and/or river conditions call for recommendations.
Reels:
Mid to Large Arbors with adjustable disc drag systems
Lines:
Weight forward floating to match rod weight in more natural colors such as olive, white, light blue, yellow, and tan. Please no neon yellows, greens, or oranges if possible..
Switch lines and/or Skagit Lines to match switch rod weight, custom sinking tips and poly leaders.
Flies:
Egg Patterns (Size #14-#10) Single Eggs, Nuke Eggs, Sucker Spawn, and Crystal Spawn
Colors: Pink, Orange, Blue, Yellow, White, Peach, Chartreuse, Cream, and Mixed Color Blends.
Nymphs (Size #14-#10) with and without bead heads.
Prince, Hares Ear, Copper John, Picket Pin, Caddis larvae, Rubber Legged Versions, Stonefly Imitations, and various local custom designs( your guide or local shop can make recommendations)
Colors: Black, Grey, White, Olive, Blue, Chartreuse, Brown, and hot spot versions
Streamers (size #6-#12) with and without bead heads.
Rabbit Zonkers, Woolly Buggers, Clouser Minnows, Ice Man Minnows, and Egg Sucking Leech
Colors: Black, Peacock, Copper, Olive, Silver, Pearl, White, Chartreuse, Blue, Brown.
* Olive/White-Olive/ Pearl-Blue/Pearl-Tan/Pearl match the Lake Erie Emerald Shiner.
Swung Flies (size#8-#2)
Sculpin, Goby, Leeches, Marabous, Egg Raiders, Intruders, and Custom Minnow Iimitations tied on standard hook or tube versions.
Colors: White, Black, Purple, Olive, Blue, and several blended color schemes.

Extras:
BB sized dull colored shot- please no water gremlin shot...
Indicators (Foam) White, Blue, and Dark Green for those who have a hard time seeing white.
Leaders 9ft either hand tied or tapered to 3x.
